Interview With a judge

Upon interviewing a judge, I learned a good amount of information regarding his standing on different areas of the law and how it pertains to the Information Technology law field. This Judge has some experience with this area, as he does quite a few cases involving divorce. Judge had said that there are many instances where information put on electronic sources such as Facebook have been used in the trials he has overseen. This interview was a very beneficial one for me, as I learned that there are already many laws in place for different electronic crimes, which is something I did not know at the time of starting this interview. The judge also pointed out that there are seminars at the Arizona State Bar Convention that are pertaining to the use of electronic sources and how to use them in the courtroom. There is a great deal of information I received that will be used in the final paper, such as the controversy and prosecution of electronic crimes.

This article from the online publication InfoWorld is mainly about the proposed neutralization of internet usage guidelines that the FCC has pushed for. This situation is a good area to look at when you are concerning IT Law mainly because the net neutrality is being pushed by many different lawmakers. I will use this article in my research paper because this is a controversial subject that has been debated by both sides of the argument for some time.

In this article, Mr. Martin discusses the need for an electronic information policy in a firm, such as his own. His main point is “to protect client confidences and stay in business.”Given the experience that Mr. Martin has in the law field, this source will be used as a reference due to the in-depth coverage he gives on how to protect businesses in the digital era.

This article out of Computerworld gives a good example of what a Chief Information Officer (CIO) is in charge of when it comes to running a business. The need for CIO’s have become increasingly demanding due to the large technological advancements. With having CIO’s in place, the link to lawyers is abundant, due to the fact that the lawyers work hand in hand with CIO’s to protect their business from electronic attacks. This source will be used for information on what CIO’s need to protect their businesses from.

This web page is from the official U.S. Army website for Fort Bragg, NC. This is an educational website used to inform the soldiers from Fort Bragg about the use of pirated software. The use of pirated software is a major legal concern for any corporation that designs software. This article is very informative, and even gives different Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) laws that could be broken if a soldier is using pirated software. This article will be used in my research paper due to the nature of the article, which is illegally obtaining software from various different mediums.

This test is to prove that the lawyer (or potential law personnel) has knowledge in the different laws that pertain to their specific state. The Arizona Bar Association has specific guidelines for different aspects of the bar certification, as well as different tests for the specific type of law practice a person may wish to strive for.

IT and E-Commerce law are always facing the possibility of someone stealing a patent for their product, since most programs are a written code, rather than a physical product that someone could touch and feel.

Commercial law is needed for the IT and E-commerce side of everything because IT is used in most, if not all, major businesses. The use of commercial lawyers in corporations keeps the company legal when it comes to setting the rules and standards for the corporation.

When choosing a career path, I was doing a lot of consideration as to what objectives I wanted to complete in the process. I had been working a factory job and kept having issues with the favoritism you see in these settings. I had multiple considerations when choosing, some of which are very far-fetched, and some which are attainable. One career I considered was to become a Pastor with a Master’s degree in Christian Ministry. This would be attainable if I had the opportunity to attend the Seminary of my choice, which turned out to be a problem, as the Seminary is in Southern California. Another career I considered was to be in Information Technology (IT). This career was easier for me to gain due to the fact that many different colleges are offering education in this career. For this paper, I chose what seemed to be a good option in the IT field, and that is Information Technology Law. My mother has worked in the law field longer than I have been alive, so it was almost a no-brainer for me to choose this. This field is fairly new, so information is tough to get. One nice thing is that all states have a bar exam for this field. Due to the advancements in technology in the recent years, the need for lawyers that are specialized in IT are needed to help prosecute or help defend people in court. This field interests me mainly due to the fact that a good portion of judges and lawyers don’t have good knowledge of the inner workings of computers nor how they could be used for various types of crime. Through this research paper, I hope to gain a better knowledge of what is involved in the career as well as be able to help the audience to have a better idea of how there is a need for lawyers that specialize in this field.

Purpose of this blog

Well, as most of you who read this know, I am a student at Yavapai College. I am enrolled in Ms. Darrow's English 101 course, so this blog is part of that. This will mainly be for my class, as it is a requirement for one of the "projects" that we are doing, which is on a future career we would like to be in.

My career choice would either be a Director of IT, or an IT Lawyer. I am a computer nerd, and have been working in the IT field on my own for over 15 years. For this assignment, I will be basing all my work on the IT Lawyer side of the field.
